Anna Kondolf, Principal
Anna Kondolf has over twenty years of professional experience in lighting design, and has established a reputation for her dynamic visual and aesthetic approach. Anna started Anna Kondolf Lighting Design in 1990 with a specialty in high-end residential interiors and landscapes. Her work has since expanded to include a wide range of institutional commissions, including educational, retail & resturant, hospitality, and religious-based facilities.
A second-generation lighting designer, Anna was initially trained
by Winonah Kondolf, whose colleagues in New York City included the
renowned lighting designer Richard Kelly. Anna Kondolf brings a
unique background to the field of lighting design. Originally schooled
in the visual arts as a fine artist, Anna went on to graduate from
Vassar College with a degree in Environmental Design and Architecture.
After several years prospering in the field of architecture, she
attended the University of California at Berkeley and earned a masterÍs
degree in Landscape Architecture. Anna worked for a period as a
graphic artist and art director, working in magazine and book publishing.
Then, working for Winonah Kondolf Lighting Design, she designed
interior and landscape lighting for large estates in the New York
metropolitan area of Rumson, New Jersey. Returning to the West Coast,
Anna worked for Russell Mac Masters and Associates, a well-known
photographer, lighting and interior designer, and was affiliated
with eminent Bay Area photographer John Vaughan.
Anna Kondolf has taught lighting design at various institutions, including the University of California Extension, and her work has been seen in a variety of publications. She is also a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).
Kara Bradfield, Associate Designer
Kara Bradfield has been with Anna Kondolf Lighting Design since
2002, and is an Associate Designer. Her expertise includes technical
specifications, construction details, and codes. Aesthetically,
she strives to create spaces that complement and honor the architecture
while adding visual highlights and cues that lead one through a
space. Prior to focusing on lighting design, Kara was an interior
designer in the Bay Area. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interior
Design at Michigan State University and specialized in sustainable
design and green materials. Kara is Lighting Certified by the National
Council on Qualifications for Lighting Professions.
Aimee Kim, Assistant Designer
Aimee Kim joined Anna Kondolf Lighting Design in 2005. As Assistant Designer, her area of expertise includes CAD technical drafting and decorative light fixture sourcing and specifying. She also focuses on Anna Kondolf Lighting Design custom fixture design from concept to production. Prior to joining Anna Kondolf Lighting Design, Aimee worked as an Interior Designer in San Francisco. She received a BFA in Interior Architecture and Design from the Academy of Art University and also holds a degree in Ecology which she has used as a foundation to develop her knowledge of Green Design.
